Destiny: Book Review

Please note that I did not receive this book to review. I won it in a giveaway provided by the author. This review is my own personal opinions and was not compensated in any way for my thoughts. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, THOUGH I'LL TRY TO KEEP FROM IT.

  • Young Adult Paranormal/Fantasy/Magick

SUMMARY FreeFocusPublishing: Gabriella is a witch. The problem is, she doesn't remember. She repressed the memories of her powers years ago when her mother was murdered. Now, the warlock who was responsible for her mother's death has set his sights on Gabriella. He is determined to use her fear to turn her to the dark side of magick…even if it kills her. Her mother's spirit is reaching out to warn her, but even that she pushes away. Desperate to save her daughter, the spirit finds a male witch–one that just happens to be in love with Gabriella. Darron is more than willing to help but the two young witches will have way more to battle than just an evil warlock. There are overbearing jocks and petty rich girls who get tempers flaring and often set Gabrielle and Darron at odds.

There is more to the story than Gabrielle and Darron could even imagine. There are terrible secrets to be revealed, battles to be waged, and lives will be lost. Only after Gabrielle and Darron both come to terms with who they really are, and open themselves up to the true meaning of magick, can they have any hope of fulfilling their destiny.

THOUGHTS: When I read the review on the author's website, I knew I had to enter the giveaway she was holding. I've had trouble finding new books that offer different views of Wicca through fiction. I've read Cate Tiernan but after reading "Balefire", I was still left with plenty of questions instead of answers. So when I heard I had won the giveaway, I was delighted! I couldn't contain my excitement over the idea of the book. Having studied Wicca for over 6 years, I knew I was in for a treat. After reading it, I have passed it on to my Wiccan twin sister!

Gabriella, whose mother was murdered, must embrace her magick that she feared in order to save herself and her friends' lives. Along comes Darron, another witch, who has been in love with Gabriella for as long as he can remember. They need to get together and combine what they know in order to fight whatever is keeping them from completely opening themselves up to each other and the magick within. Battles are many, lives are lost, and tears are shed. I thought the characters had lots of... character! I could see myself being like Gabriella, afraid of the power but knowing I have to embrace it. Eventually, all you need is love. Love conquers all. As far as the magick goes, I wish some of that happened in real life! A lot of the rituals and meditation that goes on in the story is real and can be obtained. If you're Wiccan, you must read this story to get a deeper sense of self gratitude for what you are. Read it even if you aren't Wiccan. You will still get a lot of lessons out of it!
